SNOWBOARDERS’ RISK FOR ANKLE INJURIES

I’ve just started snowboarding. How likely is it that I’ll injure my ankles?

Snowboarders face a moderate risk of ankle injuries, particularly during aerial maneuvers. Landing from a jump often causes the foot to flex sharply upward, putting significant pressure on the ankle. The risk is exacerbated if the foot lands pointing outward. Keeping the foot aligned straight ahead can mitigate the risk of injury.

Practicing proper technique and avoiding overexertion can lower your chances of injury. Advances in boot and binding designs may offer better ankle protection in the future.
