PAIN AND LOSS OF MOTION AFTER ANKLE REPLACEMENT

About 18 months ago, I underwent a total ankle replacement for severe arthritis. Everything seemed to be going well until last month when I started experiencing ankle pain and a loss of motion. It almost feels like the joint is jammed together. Is this possible?

What you’re describing could be indicative of a condition known as subsidence. In this situation, the implant might sink into the bone, leading to the symptoms you’re experiencing. This can also make it feel like the leg on that side is shorter, causing uneven pant legs or a noticeable drop in your waistline.

It’s important to contact your surgeon as soon as possible to discuss these symptoms. Early intervention can be crucial in determining whether the implant needs revision or removal.
