Disk Training Treatment for Ankle Sprain

I’m undergoing treatment for an ankle sprain, and my physiotherapist has me standing and working my ankle on a large round disk. How does this help?

Disk training is a highly effective approach for treating ankle sprains. The disk, a circular platform with a small sphere underneath, is used to strengthen the ankle by tilting it in various directions.

This type of exercise improves balance, reduces ankle pain, and helps prevent future sprains. A key benefit of disk training is that it enhances the response of the muscles around the ankle. In particular, the anterior tibialis muscle (the main muscle along the shin) becomes quicker to activate. By improving muscle response, especially when the ankle turns inward, disk training helps protect the ankle from recurring sprains.
